Low Bowe? Dwayne Bowe’s suspension got you down? Here’s 3 WRs to take a look at that are probably available in your league

Today it was reported that Chiefs WR Dwayne Bowe has suspended 4 weeks for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. Bowe was having a nice season so far with 33 catches, 466 yards, 4 TDs, and a 13 point per game fantasy average. His suspension comes as a shock to most of us, but not to the Chiefs organization as they were aware that the suspension was coming and were proactive in signing WR Chris Chambers. The Chiefs offense has struggled this year under new coach Todd Haley and the team has faced its fair share of controversy as Bowe’s suspension comes a week after the Chiefs released RB Larry Johnson for his run in with what I’ll call Twittergate.
Fantasy Significance: Obviously this is a tough loss for Bowe owners. His 4 game suspension will put him out until week 14 which would be the 1st week of the fantasy playoffs. I would not release Bowe but I would try and trade him to a team who can afford to sit on a WR for a few weeks. Bowe has a decent fantasy playoffs schedule with matchups against the Bills (week 14), the Browns (week 15), and the Bengals (week 16). If you can afford to hold on to Bowe then I would do that too. If you are in a deeper league and Bowe’s suspension has left you scrambling, consider these three guys.
- Chris Chambers (KC)- Chambers had 2 TDs two weeks ago in his Chiefs debut and may see an increased role with Bowe’s exit. The Chiefs have known Bowe would be suspended so they may have been grooming Chambers to step into the #1 WR role.
- Lance Long (KC)- Long had a quiet week 10, but in week 9 he caught 8 passes for 74 yards, good for 15.4 fantasy points. He may not do it every week, but Long is built like Wes Welker and will likely see a role increase out of the slot for the Chiefs.
- Brandon Gibson (STL)- The Rams traded with the Eagles for Gibson about a month ago. He made his first significant production last week when he led all Rams receivers with 7 catches for 93 yards(16.3 fantasy points). In that same game with the Saints, starting WR Keenan Burton went down with a knee injury and will be out for the year, so Gibson should slide into the starting role for Burton. He is a bit of a long shot, but you could do a lot worse this time of year.
