ROUND 9
POSITION BREAKDOWN: 7 WRs, 5 RBs
My Pick: Pretty easy pick here. I was looking for another WR and I really like Antonio Bryant this year. The Bengals face a tough schedule, but Bryant has never had a QB as good as Palmer. He’s also never lined up alongside a WR as good as 85. Bryant has been inconsistent and injury prone at times, but let’s not forget that he was a top 10 WR two years ago with Jeff Garcia and no OchoCinco. I don’t think he’ll be a top 10 WR again, but top 20 isn’t out of reach. Laveranues Coles failed to fill the void left my TJ Houshmandzadeh, but Bryant should be able to bring the element back to the passing game that TJH left. Bryant’s bye week is different than the 3 starters I have so he’ll make a nice bye week starter or flex option. Finally, should one of my starters miss any time because of injury, I’d have no problem starting Bryant as an every week starter.

ROUND 2

My first real draft starts today. I blogged about this yesterday but I wanted to set up a thread/blog for continuous coverage of how this draft goes. Feel free to comment or ask any questions in the comment section. I’m picking 6th. Some people think it’s crazy to draft this early. I’m not worried about it but for those who think I’m crazy for doing so, I understand your concern. I’ll be posting my picks as I make them. This is a 12-hour per pick live draft. We’re going 20 rounds and the starting lineup criteria is as follows…
1 QB
2 RBs
3 WRs
1 TE
1 Flex
1 K
1 D/ST
PPR and decimal scoring.
Winner of the satellite league wins an automatic bid into the 2011 WCOFF Main Event or $2,000.

As some of you know, I’ll be participating in my 1st real draft tomorrow. The league is hosted by the World Championship of Fantasy Football (WCOFF). They host a main event every year with a hefty price tag of $1800 per team and the winner of their main event takes home a cool $300k. Who says you can’t make a living off of this? Winning the WCOFF Main Event is a truly elite accomplishment. I often get tired of people telling me how great their “free 8-team autodraft-non PPR-Yahoo office” league is and how stacked their team is… That’s not fantasy football to me, that’s like comparing your kid winning their school jog-a-thon (where most of the kids walk) with running in the Boston Marathon. Play in a high stakes league or one of these main events, then you can tell me how great your team is.
Anyways, it’s my (fantasy football) life goal to win a main event like WCOFF. I played back in the 2007 WCOFF Main Event, but had a team that was riddled with injuries and busts (Maroney, Jacobs, Vernon Davis, Mark Clayton, to name a few). I still shake my head at some of the crap I selected that year.. you’re welcome for my donation. With redemption in mind, I’m planning on playing again this year. I’ll be splitting the team with a friend and we also might let people stake a % of our entry fee. That draft takes place until the first week of September in Las Vegas.

I love fantasy football.. shocking, right? As most of you know I started drafting for my first league this year in the New Jersey Fantasy Football League (NJFFL) which is a dynasty league. On Thursday I’ll start drafing for my first redraft league. It’s a satellite league for the World Championships of Fantasy Football. The league winner gets an automatic bid into the 2011 WCOFF Main Event and a shot to win $300,000. WCOFF’s first satellite draft started last Thursday. I want to take a look at that draft and how each round has gone and get a better feel about what to expect for my draft. It’s always easier to breakdown a draft I’m not participating in because I can be more critical. I always feel bad when I say someone I’m playing in a league with had a bad pick, but I have no problem doing it for someone else’s draft. =) Today I’ll tackle the first 3 rounds and take a look at the 4th-6th rounds later this week. You can follow the live draft results by going to the league home page. You’ll find the live draft under the “League” tab. Ladies and gentleman, welcome to the 2010 WCOFF!

I love the NFL Draft, but I am so glad it’s over because now we can end the speculation and start to solidify some of the uncertainty headed into this year. With the NFL draft behind this, some of my 2010 rankings have obviously changed. The first position I want to take a look at is QB. If you missed my last QB rankings, here’s the link. None of the QBs drafted made the rankings. Bradford may be the only one starting by week 1 and even still, he’ll have his growing pains and there are better options. Bradford may make a nice bye week fill in as the year goes on, but he’s not a guy I’ll be drafting in 2010. I’ll list the QBs, mark the changes and add in some post-draft comments. What’s also included is the downgrade to Big Ben because of his 6 game suspension. It’s a sad story when I’d still rather have Big Ben minus 6 games over 33% of the other starting NFL QBs, ouch. The sleepers are also denoted with an (S).

1. Sam Bradford, Stl- No surprise here. This could work out to be an ok pick, maybe even a good pick. I’m not sold on it though. The good news for Bradford is he has a nice corps of young WRs (Avery, Robinson, Gibson, Burton) to throw to and the 2nd best RB in Steven Jackson. His quick throwing background at Oklahoma should help him transition to the west coast offense the Rams run which also features quick timed passing.
Fantasy Impact: It will remain to be seen if they go with Bradford right away or bring him along slowly during the AJ Feeley era. My best guess would be Bradford is starting sooner than later. I won’t take him in my redraft leagues, but I would snag him late in a keeper league and at the end of the rookie draft first round in dynasty leagues.

With the WR rankings and TE rankings in tow, let’s get to the RBs. Similarly to those rankings, the sleepers will be denoted with (S). Like the WRs, the first 36 RBs should be considered starters in PPR leagues. The last 36 are backups, handcuffs, and bye week fill-ins. Feel free to comment and let me know what you think of if you have any questions as to why I have a guy ranked where I do.
1. Chris Johnson, Ten
2. Adrian Peterson, Min
3. Ray Rice, Bal
4. Maurice Jones-Drew, Jac
5. Steven Jackson, Stl
