Week 12 and already looking toward 2010 (sigh)
So I got knocked out of 2 leagues yesterday. I can’t remember a year where I didn’t have all my teams make the playoffs. I know it wasn’t from a lack of preparation because I definitely studied my ass off, but I think it may have been from a lack of perception. Perhaps I’m stuck in my old ways of thinking and falling in love with RBs. This year I was very aggressive in my...

Call me Willie because I'm on the road again!
Well after a few days in Monterey, CA to visit family, I’m headed to SF for the Niners and Jaguars game tomorrow. It’s amazing what we can do with technology these days. I’m writing this from my iPhone as my friend Matt drives and attempts to freeze me out in the backseat. Someone should tell him that’s a game you play with members of the opposite sex in the car, silly...

Make or break week, I hope taking a chance doesn't...
In fantasy football I have a rule that I try not to break. I called it the “don’t get too cute” rule. I think it applies to other aspects of life, but definitely to football. Here’s a football example of getting too cute. The Patriots march the ball down the field with a RB, let’s say Lawrence Maroney for argument’s sake. Now picture yourself as a Maroney...

I'll Have a Turkey Leg & a side of Martellus,...
I want to preface this article by saying that in my leagues, I only carry 1 QB, 1 K, and 1 D. The reason being that usually there are good options at those positions should your starter on the waiver wire. I do this so I can load up at RB, WR, and TE to stash some guys that could pay off later in the season. Another guy that could be good going forward is Cowgirls TE Martellus Bennett.
I...

The Dogs are Barking for Turkey Week! Week 12...
Roar everyone! Last week was the straight up picks were pretty successful (12-4). The against the spread picks went 9-7 which is ok, but 2.5 points in the different direction and the record would of been 12-4. This week I’m feeling a lot of the favorites straight up, but the underdogs against the spread. But before we get into that, let’s take a look at last week.
Week 11 Straight...

Screw Waldo! Ware's Danny?!
Sorry to interrupt Chris Johnson day, but this is important. Last Wednesday, I wrote an article about 5 RBs that could make a late season impact for your fantasy team. Well lately RBs are dropping like flies and because of that, 3 of those 5 RBs I talked about last week now have fantasy relevence. Earlier this week I mentioned that you should get Bills RB Fred Jackson. Today I want to talk about...

My favorite pic of the one and only, Homeless...
My man CJ28 is homeless. Not sure if it’s because he’s really homeless or because it’s a tight way of saying “I need to score TDs”. If it’s not they should make it that. Anyways, this is my current favorite pic of C-My-Dust Johnson…
Not only is he a fantasy stud and amazing RB but he’s also patriotic! Here’s some other CJ pics for your...

Oh why oh why did I start Lee Evans & John Carlson...
In Rotobowl (Team Double Dragon), I started Lee Evans (2.5 points) over Mario Manningham (18.6 points) and John “No Catch” Carlson (0 points) over Heath “20 point performance” Miller (22.5 points). I was playing for a bye and lost. I ended up getting blown out, but it’s still frustrating. Evans had been hot and Carlson had a better matchup. I won’t make the...

Rock Solid: Two Week 12 MUST Pick Ups
Wow what a day for Redskins back Rock Cartwright. He touched the ball 20 times for 140 yards including 7 catches totaling 21 fantasy points today. It looks like Ladell Betts will be out for the season and Clinton Portis could miss more time, so Cartwright should start in week 12 and maybe even longer after that. He should be available in most leagues and will make a great fill-in/flex starter...

Sing it ladies: I'm a survivor (what), I'm gonna...
Going into week 10, the closest margin of victory that any of the teams I picked for the survivor pool was 8 when the Chargers beat the Raiders 24-16 in week 8. However, that would not be the case in week 10. Last week was a close one and for the first time this year I feel like I am actually a survivor in my survivor pool. But before we get into that, I’d like to apologize to my...

Who the hell is Lex Hilliard? And some other stash...
One of the keys in fantasy football is staying ahead of your competition. A great way to do that is by stashing backup and relatively unheard of RBs in case the start goes down. This will prove beneficial for those who stashed Bernard Scott, Jason Snelling, and Justin Forsett. In the last week all of those backup RBs now have fantasy relevance because starting RBs Cedric Benson, Michael Turner,...

-I’d keep Gore & pray he stays healthy.

Tuesday Night Mailbag- 20 questions with The Lion
1. Hey John, What is your take on this trade? Trade Reggie Wayne and Brandon Jacobs for Cedric Benson and Wes Welker? I have Reggie Wayne on my team and am concerned of him not playing later in the season. This is my first year but I have been told that star players will sit out if their team has already clinched the play offs. My team is very fragile and if Wayne were to sit, it would...

Low Bowe? Dwayne Bowe's suspension got you down?...
Today it was reported that Chiefs WR Dwayne Bowe has suspended 4 weeks for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. Bowe was having a nice season so far with 33 catches, 466 yards, 4 TDs, and a 13 point per game fantasy average. His suspension comes as a shock to most of us, but not to the Chiefs organization as they were aware that the suspension was coming and were proactive in...

Larry Johnson headed to the Bengals? Does he now...
ESPN is reporting that Larry Johnson, more commonly referred to as LJ (or the homo-hater in some circles), is visiting the Cincinnati Bengals today and is likely to sign with the team. This comes after starting RB Cedric Benson left yesterday’s game with a hip injury. This says a few things. One, Benson’s injury may keep him out for a significant amount of time. Two, the Bengals...

Out on the Prowl: Week 10 Expectations- Who to...
With 4 weeks left in the regular fantasy season, it’s crunch time. Let’s not forget that in most leagues 7-6 and even 6-7 will get you into the playoffs so if you’re sitting at 4-5 (like I am in 2 leagues) don’t give up hope. Hopefully this list of Week 10 players can help you with some your tough roster decisions. Now the first thing you will notice is some players are...

Thursday Night Come-Ups: Gore & Forte come up big,...
Welcome to the first Come-Ups article here at the Lion’s Den. Each week I’ll cover who came up big and who came up small and who just.. well, came. Before we get into that we have to look at what I’m basing this off of. I said in my first blog that I don’t like projections because they’re so unpredictable, but what I do take into consideration is expectations....

Laces out Dan! My week 10 Survivor Pool Pick
So far I’ve used the following teams…
Saints
Vikings
Ravens
Texans
Eagles
Packers
Colts
Chargers
Falcons
This week I’ll be going with Ace Ventura and T-Pain’s favorite team, the Miami Dolphins. Sure, the Bucs upset the Packers last week, but that was a fluke. I don’t think the Bucs can pull off 2 in a row...

Brent Celek's got a little Captain in him
This is too funny. Eagles TE Brent Celek struck the Captain Morgan pose after scoring a TD last Sunday vs the Cowboys. There’s a bit of an uproar about his antics, but I think it’s pretty hilarious. The 3rd year player out of Cincinnati has been a nice surprise for fantasy owners this year. After 9 weeks, he’s currently the 5th best TE with 40 catches, 486 yards receiving, 4...

New blog, new site, 49ers and Bears quick look
Well the Twitter is off and running (www.Twitter.com/FantasyLion) and the new site has been registered and should redirect to the blog in a few days. The URL for the site will be www.FantasyLion.com, pretty simple!
Anyways, let’s take a look at tomorrow’s Niners and Bears game from a fantasy perspective. I’m not going to give projections. There are plenty of sites for that...
